The following videos were sent to Zuri1 about homophobia in Jamaica, check out the stories and videos and comment at the bottom and tell us what you think..

Jamaica is regarded as one of the most homophobic countries in the world. Gays are often subject to violence, discrimination and ridicule. Former prime minister Bruce Golding summed up Jamaica’s homophobia by saying on Hardtalk interview that he would never appoint a gay to his cabinet. Since the 2011 general election new prime minister Portia Simpson-Miller has said that the buggery laws should be revisited and she does not support discrimination against gays. Only time will tell if she meant what she said.

In May, two Traveling Muse filmmakers, Leslie Foster and Tim Banks, spent 5 weeks meeting and film and extraordinary group of people in Jamaica, in order to tell stories about the lives of LGBT Jamaicans living in a society that defies easy categorization. Exploring a complex society with both quiet acceptance and intense homophobia, the film tells stories full of hope and of pain. Watch the first teaser here:
